love this article!!
i just read this one today - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/24/garden/24garden.html?_r=1 about the benefits of composting. i have a tumbler but cannot get a good balance between green and brown matter and always get slime. :( i dont want to give up on it though. Thanks for the info!! it will be helpful.

Hi Tasha--thanks for the incredible link! Sounds like you have too much greens going on. Do you add extra water? If so, I'd cut back on that (this might be something you already know, if so, maybe it'll help someone else reading). If you can score a bag of leaves from neighbors you could up the browns.

You have no idea how timely this post is. I really want to start a garden, (a mini garden in my mini balcony). I have one small tomato plant I just began with and definitely want to grow more fruits and veggies....hmm but not sure of my green thumb: I have a dying orchid here that I can't seem to save but hey no ones perfect.
