Today's beautiful (and sometimes beautifully messy) handmade space is that of Kelly Rae Roberts (who happens to also be an "affordable etsy artist" like I'm featuring on d*s :) Kelly creates mixed media paintings featuring portraits of women- they're very cool! Let's see where she gets to work on all of them!
What do you create in this space?
i create mixed media paintings using acrylics, oils, collage papers, ink,
and a bit of ephemera thrown in here and there. i do all of my printing
and packaging in this space, too.
Can you describe what we see in the pictures a bit?
you
see sunlight and glorious messes. you see my table space where i paint.
and another table space where i cut + matte + package my prints. you
see my inspiration board. and my aprons and boots. and little trinkets
and gifts here and there. just like the rest of my apartment, i really
take value in surrounding myself with images and treasures that bring
beauty and meaning to my heart. my favorite thing in my studio is the
big bookcase/shelf that my husband made for me out of old and weathered
wood scraps. it's perfect for holding my bins full of supplies. my
studio is the place where i spend most of my time, so it's important to
me that it be an extension of myself. it's gotta have color, music, and
sunshine.
How do you feel when you enter your "handmade space?"
sometimes
i feel incredibly inspired. and sometimes i feel overwhelmed with the
to-do list. i suppose it depends on the day. but mostly, i feel proud
of this space and what it represents: a space to play. to get creative.
to dig deeper. to celebrate. and to sing out loud while painting.
Thanks for sharing, Kelly! I LOVE that bookshelf that your husband made for you, it's great!
